Fantozzi

Fantozzi is a very curious fighter. He’s the 'greatest loser' of all time. [... ] He adapted to everything and took it all on while still floating and smiling. He was a victim, but he didn’t come out defeated". This is how he describes his creation Paolo Villaggio: guided with a steady hand by the biting direction of Luciano Salce, he reinvents the world of office in satirical and paradoxical forms, with a surreal and grotesque taste that seems to look at certain characters 'humiliated and offended' of Gogol and Chekhov, as well as the slapstick spirit of the Looney Tunes. Finding its strength "in a linguistic pastiche at the same time original and popular" (Mario Sesti) made of wrong subjunctives, pseudo-scientific jargon, neologisms and an obstinate use of hyperbole.
