Nino Benvenuti

It was the night of 17 April 1967, when RAI decided to broadcast, only by radio (to preserve the upcoming working day of the Italians), the meeting of the century between the champion Emile Griffith and the young Italian Nino Benvenuti for the world title of the middleweight. This did not prevent nearly 18 million Italians, even those who had never seen a match, to stay awake to follow a legendary feat.
The passion inherited by Papa Fernando (to whom his father had forbidden to continue boxing) ignited in that boy, just thirteen years old, the desire to compete with this sport which in nearby Trieste had seen the birth of champions like Tiberio Mitri and Duilio Loi.
